Jim Marino – PT
Owner of Nassau PT

Jim Marino PT is the owner of NPT. He graduated from Wichita State University in 1980 with a BS in PT. Prior to that he received a BS in Physical Education and Sociology from Emporia State University in KS.

He began practicing, as a staff PT at Truman Medical Center- East in KCMO and within six months became PT Director. During his six years at TMCE he received a wealth of knowledge and experience in medical rehabilitation, orthopedic, neurology, wound care, gerontology, pediatrics, education and management. He was an adjunct professor for UMKC Family Practice, assistant instructor at Penn Valley Community College PTA, member of the Rockhurst Collage Entrance Committee, clinical instructor for multiple mid western PT/PTA programs and held multiple positions on the APTA Missouri Chapter, local district and KC Orthopedic Special Interest Group.

Due to his evolving interest in outpatient orthopedic private practice and wanting to return to his eastern roots he relocated to Bloomsburg PA and was an associate PT at Basile PT in Berwick PA. There he continued to gain orthopedic experience and knowledge, also having the opportunity to be an assistant instructor of Auto-Traction for Chattanooga Corp.

In 1988 Jim again relocated, this time to the sunny southeast, to become an associate PT at PTS, a local privately owned outpatient PT facility. Having a burning desire to fulfill his dream of having his own practice he purchased the PTS Callahan office and on August 1989, West Nassau PT was born.

The Callahan office, because of its location in a rural Nassau County, was in the early years a general practice, treating not only orthopedics but neurological, wound care, and whatever else was necessary in this rural area. Building this practice also required contracts with several Home health agencies, local nursing homes and a small hospital in Folkston GA. As the practice grew there was a gradual orthopedic specialty emphasis.

In 1996 Jim partnered with Comprehensive PT, a Jacksonville based group of private practice PT’s, to open and directed an outpatient practice in Fernandina Beach while independently operating WNPT. In 1998 Jim purchased the Fernandina clinic from CPT and renamed his practice Nassau Physical Therapy. The practice has relocated both offices twice and continues to narrow its emphasis to orthopedics.

NPT is proud to be the only locally owned independent Physical Therapy private practice in Nassau County. This commitment to community is exemplified by involvements in speaking at local organizations and public/ private schools, sponsorship of many local activities including the Katie Ride For Life, Club 14/ Amelia CrossFit Youth Ride and YMCA Shrimp Festival Run. NPT is also a member of the Amelia Island/Yulee and Westside Chambers of Commerce. He has been involved for many years with the Amelia Island Youth Soccer as a coach and Board member and served four years as President. Jim has been involved with the Arthritis Foundation since 1992 and was the Jacksonville Chapter Volunteer of the Year in 1999.

Jim is married, legally and by business, to Shay. They have three children; two graduated from college, our son Jesse, the oldest, from Appalachian State in chemistry; middle daughter, Jacky, from Florida State in theater and Jenna currently enrolled in University of Florida, Public Health and Health Professions, majoring in Health Science; with aspirations of entering the UF accelerated BS Nursing Program.

Jim's love of family, friends, food and qualities of respect, hard work, commitment, and humor were taught by his strong Italian family upbringing on Long Island New York.

Jim does have other interests besides business that include maintaining health and fitness by staying physically active by road biking, locally and while traveling and working out regularly at a local fitness center and at NPT. He enjoys time with family and friends, cooking, eating and wine tasting on the holidays or any time for that matter. He relaxes reading professional and business related resources, self-improvement and mysteries and working outdoors in the yard. Jim enjoys traveling and would love to visit the "old country" in Italy wine and food tasting and bike touring.
